Dr Claudia Gärtner, (*1971) is a Professor of Practical Theology at TU Dortmund University. Her research focuses on Religious Education and Didactics. In recent years, she has concentrated, in particular, on fundamental issues of Religious Education as well as the Didactics of Images and of Church History. She is currently conducting research projects on Teaching Methodology in Developmental research and work with youth organisations in day schools.
Claudia Gärtner studied Catholic Theology, Art and Education at the Universities of Paderborn and Paris from 1990 to 1996 and took her doctorate in Systematic Theology at the University of Münster in 2001. From 2001-2006, she taught Art and Catholic Religious Education at a senior school before completing her habilitation with research on “Ästhetisches Lernen in der Christologiedidaktik” [Aesthetic Learning in the Didactics of Christology] at the University of Münster in 2010. She is currently Chair of the Working Group on Catholic Religious Education and Catechetics.
