Dr phil Dr. theol. Martin Breul (*1986) is a substitute professor of Systematic Theology at TU Dortmund University. His research is mainly focused on Fundamental Theology and Philosophy of Religion. Current research projects concentrate on Public Theology in Postsecular Societies, Special Divine Action and the relationship of theological and evolutionary anthropology. He is the principial investigator of the third-party-funded research project 'The Theological Significance of Michael Tomasello's 'Evolutionary Anthropology' and member of the 'Junges Kolleg' of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. Martin Breul studied Catholic Theology, Philosophy and English Studies at the University of Cologne, Belfast and Münster. He finished a PhD in Philosophy of Religion at the University of Cologne in 2015 ('Religion in der politischen Öffentlichkeit') and followed up with a PhD in Catholic Theology at the University of Bonn in 2018 ('Diskurstheoretische Glaubensverantwortung. Konturen einer religiösen Epistemologie in Auseinandersetzung mit Jürgen Habermas'). In 2021, he successfully completed his habilitation with a book on divine action ('Gottes Geschichte. Eine theologische Hermeneutik der Rede vom Handeln Gottes'). After being a substitute professor of Fundamental Theology at the University of Erfurt from 2020-2021, he is currently a substitute professor of Systematic Theology at TU Dortmund University.
